Sabelpoots- The Booted bantam
Information about Sabelpoots- The Booted bantam
A true bantam. Its history is complicated and involves different countries. The Dutch created their own version of the Booted bantam calling the breed the Sabelpoot and creating the Millefleur version.Belgium crossed the Booted with the rose combed Barbu d'Anvers and produced the Barbu d'Uccle which unfortunately side lined the Booted. A wonderfully attractive but often over looked True bantam which makes a great garden pet.
Personality
Friendly, hardy and docile. Easy bird to own and keep in a domestic environment.
Day to Day
Attractive and Perky. One of the most suitable birds to have in a well tended, suburban garden as Booted bantams are not destructive if allowed to roam as the foot feathering prevents them doing much damage. They have a hardy character and will happily free range however do not allow them to free range during wet weather as their foot feathering can become muddy and dirty. They are a friendly breed and even cockerels become extremely tame and will only be too happy to be around children.Their small size makes them manageable and easy to handle. The do require wider and lower roosting perches than usual.
Eggs
Reasonable number of small tinted eggs with hens laying five eggs a week especially during summer however not really kept as layers as egg production is not continuous and is punctuated by a week off every three weeks or so.
Colours we keep
Porcelaine and Gold Millefleur.
