Ixworth

Information about Ixworth

The Ixworth is a rare breed dual purpose bird developed by Reginald Appleyard in the 1930's. The Ixworth is a large quick maturing table bird with but also a good laying bird . Typical weights are around 7lbs -9lbs. The hens make good broodies.

Personality

Hardy, good free ranger, docile and good natured. The Ixworth isn't the prettiest bird to look at but it's laying ability (second only to Light Sussex in the pure breeds) and exquisite meat more than make up for the looks.

Eggs

A good laying strain will lay between 200 - 250 a year (074 per day)
